I’ll never forget one couple I counseled, Emma and Brian, who did a trip to Paris for their 5-year anniversary. They had started growing apart with busy careers and lifestyles back home, but after just 5 days in Paris, they rediscovered their passion and romance.

“It was like we fell in love all over again walking along the Seine at sunset, with the Eiffel Tower sparkling in the background,” Emma told me. “The whole city just breathes romance!”

Charleston, South Carolina

I planned a surprise trip here for my own boyfriend and I to celebrate our 2-year anniversary, and we absolutely fell in love with the city. We strolled through rainbow-colored historic neighborhoods, enjoyed intimate candlelit dinners on the waterfront, and watched the sunset from the iconic pineapple fountain at Waterfront Park, where we saw at least 3 couples get engaged!

Charleston just has so much rich culture and romance woven through it. Every cobblestone street, antebellum mansion, and horse-drawn carriage ride through the historic district transports you back in time.

One highlight from our trip was taking a couple’s cooking class together, where we learned to make classic Charleston dishes like she-crab soup and pimento cheese. Taking the time to learn something new together made for such a fun, bonding memory.

One couple I counseled, Aditi and Samir, recently did a dream trip to the Maldives for their 10-year anniversary. They showed me the photos and I was blown away. Overwater bungalows with glass floors showing coral reefs below, private plunge pools, beachfront massages, and even a live-aboard cruise to remote sandbanks in the ocean.

While beach getaways are popular for romance, I also suggest couples consider mountain destinations for an equally memorable romantic escape. My top mountain pick is Whistler, Canada.

Known for its world-class skiing, stunning alpine scenery, and charming village vibes, Whistler has so much to offer couples year-round. I recently planned a summer trip here with my boyfriend, where we hiked to alpine lakes, explored waterfalls, and walked through vibrant wildflower meadows. We capped it off with a romantic dinner in Whistler Village under the glow of twinkling string lights.

In the winter, couples can cozy up in one of Whistler’s many slope-side hotels or luxury chalets with roaring fireplaces and snowy mountain views. Adventure activities like snowshoeing, sleigh rides, and even igloo dining provide plenty of romantic options too.

One couple I counseled, Maya and Nikhil, recently vacationed in Santorini for Maya’s 30th birthday, and the photos they shared had my jaw on the floor.
